Art In The Streets

The Gordon Square Arts District (GSAD) $30 million capital campaign is at 90% of goal, and philanthropists Richard W. Pogue and Kelly Tompkins initiated a West Side Challenge to help spur engagement of those who live, work or own a business nearby. They are donating $1 (up to $100,000) in for every $3 raised by west siders through the end of 2013. Anyone west of the Cuyahoga River (including all suburbs and exurbs) can make a donation that will qualify for the challenge.

“When we began the campaign for the Gordon Square Arts District”, notes Dick Pogue, Senior Advisor, Jones Day, and co-chair of the GSAD Board of Directors, “we believed the arts could be used as a catalyst to ignite substantial change in a neighborhood and boost the revival being experienced in the City of Cleveland. It has exceeded our expectations.”

“Gordon Square perfectly represents the power of what can happen when the diverse forces of art and economic development can come together in one neighborhood”, notes Kelly Tomkins, Executive Vice President, Legal, Government Affairs and Sustainability, Cliffs Natural Resources, and President, Cliffs China. “From blight to bright, Gordon Square has become among our most favorite destinations to showcase the continued renaissance of Cleveland not to mention its fine restaurants and entertainment options.  We need more Gordon Squares – you can’t beat the return on investment.”

The West Side Challenge is halfway to its goal, and we need your help now to claim the rest of the challenge grant before the deadline on December 31, 2013.
